La Scie is part of the commune of Limalonges.The land is mainly flat which is ideal for people who love walking or cycling, as there are many peaceful country lanes. We are 5km from Sauze Vaussais where there is a large supermarket, boulangerie, hairdressers, banks, several bars and restuarants, there is also tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool. 10km from Civray, a lovely picturesque market town, with its twice weekly market, it has a lovely town square where you can sit outside the cafe bars and restaurants, there is also the 12th century church of St.Nicholas with its romanesque square frontage,you can also go for walks along side the river Charente,also in summer you can go canoeing and fishing on the river, there is also an open air swimming pool. 15km from Ruffec, which has large supermarkets, shops, banks, restaurants and cafe bars,all the local towns have local markets an various days of the week. Places to visit include:- La Valee des Singe, the monkey park where you can walk amongst the monkeys,with over 350 free roaming monkeys and apes for you to enjoy their antics,with a feeding plan to help arrange your day out which is enjoyed by people of all ages. Futuroscope which is a high tech environment giving visitors a chance to experience adventures on the land,sea and even into space, using the latest technologies,the many 3-D cinemas and auditoriums will make you feel that you are there,with over 20 high tech attractions this is an experience not to be missed, if you stay until the evening there is a light, laser and water show called "Le Miroir d'Uranie". Zoodyssee is one of Europes largest animal parks set in the forest of Chize,here you will see more than 600 animals including otters, vultures, wolves, wildcats and tree frogs.You can explore the forest on foot or on a horse drawn carrige.There is also a mini farm and an adventue playground for children. Maris Poitevin known as "Little Venice" it is Frances largest colection of man made waterways,there are lots to do in the area such as, walking,cycling,horseriding,fishing,boating,birdwatching and lots more.Why not hire a canoe and explore the area yourself or go on a "platte" and have a guided tour. Melle, with its ancient silvermines(Mine d'Argent) which are well worth a visit together with the romanesque churches, there is also a good selection of shops,cafes and restaurants. Chef Boutonne, has a great fishing lake with carp over 30lb which is overlooked by the Chataeu,there is also a childrens play area. Cognac, the place where the famous brandy houses are situated,many have guided tours where you can sample and then buy if you wish. Poitiers, a lively city with bustling pavement cafes and restaurants,there is the 12th century Notre Dame la Grande makes the city well worth the visit. Niort, has a tranquil ambience with an illuminated bridge that glows softly at night and is ldeal for people who can paint or people who like photography,There are plenty of shops,good restaurants,cafe bars,banks etc. Niort, has everything anybody would need. Angouleme, has a lovely old quarter well worth a visit,plenty of shops,restaurants etc. All the towns and cities have local markets on various days of the week,where you can buy the local produce.
From the RN10, come off at junction D948 Niort,Sauze Vaussais and Civray, at roundabout follow signs for Civray and as you leave Les Maisons Blanches turn next right and the farmhouse is first on the right.
